Listen out for me on Radio 4

BBC's The World This Weekend are featuring a report on the Liberal Democrat leadership election this afternoon. As part of their coverage, they interviewed me, alongside Mark Mills, a fellow blogger and OULD member. It's airing today at 1pm on Radio 4. If you don't manage to catch it live, you'll be able to listen again for up to a week.

I have no idea how much of our interview will have made it into the final cut, but given that we spoke for 10 minutes, and the final report is only four minutes, it can't be very much! Chances are they'll have picked out one of the more off-message bits. I'm sitting here in terror, waiting for my summons from the whips' office ...

Did you say there was "something of the night" about Chris Huhne?

Refer to any people in the party as "the bastards"?

Use the phrase "psychologically flawed"?

No, but if you watched the Politics Show just now, it appears that Chris Huhne has branded his rival "Calamity Clegg" - that pretty well tops anything I could have done!

Huhne's nasty side is starting to come across - the Calamity Clegg comments and suchlike are indicative of that. Huhne is campaigning negatively in order to close the still fairly considerable gap.

The bottom line is, Clegg is likely to improve once in the job and, much as we've seen with Cameron, if you're young enough you can adapt and develop. Huhne is past that stage in his life; i don't see him suddenly developing the much needed charisma and empathy that is so badly needed.

We have an entire frontbench and membership to come up with excellent policies, we need a leader who can sell them convincingly to the British people. Clegg seems more appropriate for that, and more likely to grow and improve as time goes by.

Thought that you came over very well Jonny! Re Leo, unusually I find myself having to leap to the defence of Chris Huhne (!)being of a similar age, if I really thought I was past being able to "adapt and develop" and that I was "past that stage of life" I think I would go and end it all now!!!! Don't forget, us 50 somethings grew up in the 60s
............ah......those were the days........

Don't make me jealous, I wish I'd been around in the 60s. It's one of the coolest decades on record. On the plus side, at least I'm too young to remember much of the 80s, which was by all accounts one of the worst ...
