A bit of restraint ...

The leader of the Conservative Euro MPs, Giles Chichester, has resigned over a serious error with his expenses.

The leader of our own Euro MPs resigned for making anti-Semitic comments. And then had the cheek to stand for re-election.

I suggest we keep very, very quiet about this story.

Personally I don't see why it is a problem to stand for your former post. It's like saying "I'd like to carry on, I ballsed up, but you judge for yourselves and kick me out permanently if you like".

Fair point, but I was thinking more of him standing for re-election as an MEP, to be honest. I don't see how it's fair for Chris Davies to be reselected for his seat whilst someone like Mark Oaten is forced to stand down. Davies's conduct is orders of magnitude worse, and actually relates to his job rather than his personal life.

He was quite magnanimous towards Chichester tonight on Newsnight at least!
